Really looking forward to your portrait session, celebrating and capturing this season of your last year of high school! I’ve found that doing a bit of preparation for the session, can help create a session of ease and joy. Below I’ve shared all of my suggestions, but only do the ones that resonate with you!

First up, take some time.

I recommend setting aside a couple of hours before your session to slow down, have fun, and get into a good mindset. The more relaxed, inspired, and you you feel, the more that will shine through in your photos.

Here are a few ideas to help you prep:

  • Take your journal to a cozy coffee shop and write about what you’re excited for during the rest of your senior year — your goals, dreams, and plans for the future.

  • Go for a drive with your favorite playlist, roll the windows down, and soak in the moment.

  • Pick up a bouquet of your favorite flowers or treat yourself to something small that makes you smile.

Whatever you choose, the goal is to arrive feeling happy, grounded, and ready to celebrate this moment in your life.

What makes you feel like your best self?

The answer to that is different for everyone, and here are a few suggestions as a little preparation goes a long way in helping you feel confident and comfortable during your session. In the days leading up to it, take some time to care for the details that make you feel most like you.

Nails: These don’t need to be done at a salon — a simple at-home manicure is perfect. Make sure they’re clean, shaped, and polished with a soft, neutral color that will complement any outfit you choose.

Hair: Practice styling your hair the way you plan to wear it for the session a few days in advance. This ensures you feel confident about how it looks and avoids any day-of surprises.

Outfits: Try everything on ahead of time. Wearing your chosen looks once or twice before the shoot will help you make sure they’re comfortable, flattering, and make you feel great.

Jewelry: Choose pieces that reflect your style but don’t distract from you. Often, simple, timeless accessories photograph best.

Grooming: If shaving is part of your routine, plan to do so before your session so you feel fresh and polished.

Again, these are simply suggestions — feel free to take what resonates and leave the rest. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and like your favorite version of yourself. Try on your outfits ahead of time, and choose the one that makes you feel the most confident and at ease. ✨
